November Celebrations

"In summer, the song sings itself"
William Carlos Williams

November is a tremendous month for everyone as the essence of Summer drifts in and we gear up for end of year entertaining and Christmas. Don't let the year run away with you - we have Christmas all under control with affordable gifts for everyone (including those hard to please), gorgeous hampers at a range of prices and in store dining to take the hassle out of end of year lunches and dinners.

With the usual Eurodore service, we are happy to deliver large orders, to make Christmas preparation even easier.

Our wine list buds with aromatics and fresh summer wines, complementing Chef Dan's new seasonal menu.

As usual, we look forward to welcoming you in store.

"Beaujolais Nouveau Day"

“Beaujolais Nouveau Day“

20 November
George DuBoeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2009 Release
Two cases secured by Eurodore!

Not to be confused with the standard George DuBoeuf Beaujolais - VILLAGES - villages meaning blend of grapes from the region's villages.

The George DuBoeuf Beaujolais Nouveau release is all estate grown and as such limited quantities are available around the world.

It is the lightest, fruitiest style of Beaujolais and is the youngest wine ever produced.

The reason Beaujolais Nouveau can be bottled and sold so quickly is that the wine is not fermented in the usual way. This means that the grapes are fermented without being crushed (usually the grapes are crushed by feet or machinery). The resulting wine is very fruity and low in tannin and can be ready inside six weeks.

The grapes are harvested between late August and early September. It is then fermented for just a few days and released to the public on the 3rd Thursday of November - "Beaujolais Nouveau Day".

The release date is simultaneous in every city around the world.

Just after midnight on the given day a race begins to ship the wine out all around the world as quickly as possible. It has generated stunts and big headlines. There were car or balloon races, even elephant and rickshaw races, to bring the first bottles to Paris, Britain, Belgium and Germany.

It is the first French wine to be released for each vintage year.

The wines are meant to be drunk as young as possible, when they are at their freshest and fruitiest. They can last up to one or two years but will have lost its most of their characteristic flavors by that point. The wine is meant to be drunk chilled – the French drink it as an aperitif before meals.

Most of the best restaurants can only get 3-4 boxes, Eurodore has received two. So everyone can enjoy this once a year treat, we are selling by the glass only. $15 glass.

In the Asian Spot Light

This month Eurodore drew more media attention again, making the list on a 'top 10 things to do in Melbourne' by Visa Asia.

Christmas Stilton

Christmas Stilton

For many, part of the Christmas lunch always includes. Stilton. A Christmas Stilton is an easy-to-prepare and classic way to celebrate the good tidings of the year.

Long known as “The King of Cheeses”, blue Stilton is one a handful of British cheeses granted the status of a “protected designation origin” (PDO) by the European Commission. Only cheese produced in the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and made according to a strict code may be called Stilton

Stilton was first made in the early 18th century in the midlands of England. Specifically in and around the Melton Mowbray area. Stilton takes its name from the village of Stilton (though no Stilton was ever made there) located about 80 miles north of London on the Great North Road.

You can pre-order your 1/4, 1/2 and full wheels of CROPWELL BISHOP STILTON in store now or click here.

Located in Leicestershire, Cropwell Bishop Dairy is one of the smallest dairies in the Stilton-makers’ Association still making cheese today.

Note: there are limited stores of Stilton in Victoria, so we encourage all customers to order early.

Perfect hands make Panettone

Perfect hands make Panettone

You may remember Eurodore was one of only two Melbourne foodstores to stock the Perbellini Panettone and Pandoro for Christmas.

Last year we sold out and so to ensure everyone can receive these prized Panettone or Pandoro we are taking ex-shipment orders. To secure yours, you can preorder and pay in the foodstore.

For those new to the Perbellini story...Ernesto Perbellini and his two brothers, who are well into their 60’s, make world renowned Panettone and Pandoro on the outskirts of Verona in the northern Italian region of Veneto.

They are fifth generation pastry cooks specializing on pasticerria.

Panettone is a typical sweet bread of Milan, with nuts and fruit, usually prepared and enjoyed for Christmas and New Year around Italy. Pandoro translates as “golden bread” and is the traditional Christmas cake of Verona. Baked in a star shape, it is light and buttery and covered with a light dusting of icing sugar.

The Perbellini Panettone and Pandoro are baked at the end of October as the cooler weather settles in, the dough is handmade and allowed to leaven naturally, baked, then allowed to cool, then the cake is hand wrapped by the Perbellini Family.

They are superbly packaged and make wonderful gifts. You can pre-order your Panettone in store now or click here.

Hamming it up

Hamming it up

“The Christmas ham is not an extravagance, it is an investment.”
Richard Cornish, Epicure

We are now taking orders for Andrew’s Choice Christmas hams.

Like all products in store, Eurodore’s hams have been sourced and selected for quality and flavour.

Andrew Vourvahakis, of Andrew’s Choice, our gourmet small goods supplier and multi award winning butcher, invested in a combination smoker-oven that slowly raises the temperature of the meat. “If you want all the flavour, find a ham that is oven-roasted and smoked naturally,” he says, “It’s the small butcher who is still doing his own hams who will give you the really good hams.”

There will be tasting every week end until orders close mid December.

Easy Entertaining

Easy Entertaining

"The difference between a calm cook and a panicked, is a well stocked pantry"
Gill Dupleix

There are seven weeks until Christmas and life begins to become hectic. The philosophy of Eurodore's foodstore is to stock products that make life easier - we are not just for the inspired cook but rather for the busy professional who wants high quality food that is simple and easy to prepare.

King Valley dips, pestos and stir-throughs are a wonderful example of this concept. They are organic and gluton free bursting with flavour, yet are not a fridge product. They are heat sealed and can live in your pantry for months.

The Beetroot and Macadamia Pesto is a tasteful mix of beetroot and macadamia nuts which can be mixed with oils and yoghurts to make a tantalizing and colourful dressing. The Basil Pesto is highly traditional with organic basil and chunks of cashews. Gorgeous with any type of pasta.

So, for a fast meal the stir-throughs are great, or if friends drop by the dips are a life saver.

Sensational Salads

Sensational Salads

“To remember a successful salad is generally to remember a successful dinner; at all events, the perfect dinner necessarily includes the perfect salad.” George Ellwanger

King Valley Fine Foods isn’t just another gourmet food producer - in fact, owner Rosemary Thompson’s fanatical commitment to quality and sustainability would better be described as a religion. The recipe ideas are a contradiction of timeless favourites handed down through generations, to new and exciting combinations that foster the best seasonal ingredients Australia has to offer.

Traditional Balsamic Reduction, Morello Cherry Vinaigrette, Rhubarb Vinaigrette, Fig and Blood Orange Glaze, Eggless Caesar Dressing and the new Milawa Blue Dressing are just a few of the exciting and delicious gourmet staples Rosemary has created - guaranteed to liven up simple salads or summer entertaining.

Not only do all her products contain natural ingredients, they are chemical and gluten free and the oil used in the vinaigrettes and pestos is from the farm’s very own olive grove.

Watch out for Rosemary’s Workshop to be held later in the year where she will share production secrets and cooking tips
