Lessons just for you...

Private yoga classes and meditation courses are an ideal way to approach individual needs.

Do you have little time to travel to classes and prefer individual attention in your own home?

Are you ill or injured and undergoing medical treatment and currently  require a great deal of privacy?

Perhaps you wish to have a few private lessons before venturing into a public class?

We offer one-on-one sessions and classes for small groups (up to 4) at The Yoga Studio, in your workplace or at your home. The small class size ensures a safe and friendly environment with lots of personal attention.

Take a moment to weigh this up...

According to Dr. Sandra Cabot, author - "The Liver Cleansing Diet":

Stress may be caused by physical or environmental factors, such as trauma, pollution and toxic exposure; physiological stressors such as pain, chronic infections, lack of sleep, dietary imbalance and dehydration; and mental stressors such as emotional strain, anxiety and depression.

When intermittent stressors continually occur they can become chronic stressors. These are long term and become ‘a part of life’.

Release of stress hormones are in response to the primevil ‘fight or flight’ mechanism.  This will cause a craving for the foods that are going to provide the fuel for the quick ‘bursts’ of energy - carbohydrates and fat combined.

Researchers are finding that changes in the body triggered by stress, such as elevated cortisol levels can cause insulin resistance and weight gain.  Chronic stress is a big piece in the obesity equation.

                                                                            Dr. Sandra Cabot

Reflect upon this:

It only stands to reason that practises such as yoga, deep relaxation and meditation will assist in curbing stress and in many instances assist in stabilising weight.

An apple a day...

Take a bite...

Did you know that there is much truth in the old adage...an apple a day keeps the doctor away?

As part of your yogic diet, eat apples!

Studies show that the consumption of apples can help control weight gain, lower the risk of heart disease and fight cancer The flesh of the apple may be the most delicious part, but without doubt it is the skin that is the most nutritional.

The apple skin contains 4 milligrams of quercetin, an anti-oxident compound preventing oxygen molecules from damaging individual cells.  This can prevent cell changes than can lead to cancer.

The insoluble fibre found in apples helps the digestive tract to run smoothly.  It also gives a 'filling' effect which is an effective appetite suppressant.

Apples also contain soluble fibre, forming a gel-like material in the digestive tract what can help lower cholesterol as well as the risk of stroke and heart disease.  One of the soluble fibres found in apples is called pectin.  Pectin reduceds the amount of cholesterol produced in the liver, slows digestion and the rise of blood sugar making it ideal for diabetes patients.

Choose a variety like Granny Smith.  Don't subsitute apple juice for an aple.  Though it contains some iron and potassim, apple juice contains little of the beneficial compounds quertecin and fibre.

Take a moment to wonder...

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines.

Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover.

Mark Twain

Afterthought:

In the time it has taken you to read this you have possibly taken a deep breath, reflected, imagined, relaxed and dreamed of getting away.

You have stopped just for a few moments at least...

So now stand up and stretch; walk around for a minute or two and drink a glass of water.

Hopefully this small break will have restored your energy.

Keep smiling!
